SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East) is a “third-generation” synchrotron light source. It is the Middle East’s first major international research centre.
SESAME is a cooperative venture by the scientists and governments of the region, and was established under the auspices of UNESCO. SESAME is located in Allan, Jordan (30 km from Amman and 30 km from the King Hussein/ Allenby Bridge crossing of the Jordan River).
- Open to users in May 2017.
- SESAME’s members are Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, Palestine and Turkey.
