Responsibilities: Reporting to the Beamline Scientist, the successful applicant will assist with
the installation and commissioning of the endstation and the operation, maintenance and upgrade
of the beamline. The applicant will be expected to assist in the normal operation of the beamline
including diagnosing problems and supporting the user program. Working flexible hours, including
evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.
Qualifications: Applicants must possess a minimum of a B.Sc. in a related scientific discipline
(engineering or core sciences). Applicants with a MSc or Ph.D degree with experience in EXAFS,
microprobe, or XPS are encouraged to apply as well. Experience developing or operating a
beamline is not a requirement, but experience in synchrotron-based research, x-ray based
spectroscopy / microscopy and ultra-high vacuum systems will be a definite plus. Experience
in programming and software development is also a definite plus. The applicant should have a
clear aptitude for science and a desire to participate in an active and exciting science program.
