Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has 42 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.

The Balder beamline is dedicated to XAS and XES techniques with focus on in-situ studies in energy range 2.4-40 keV. The beamline is in commissioning phase at the 3 GeV storage ring at the MAX IV Laboratory and is expected to go into user operation from 2018.

We are now looking for a research engineer with strong background and interest in hard X-ray synchrotron radiation based techniques and instrumentation, preferably in XAFS spectroscopy or X-ray emission spectroscopy. You are expected to lead assembly and installation of instrumentation of the experimental station and participate in commissioning. In the operations phase you will share responsibility for operation and user support, maintenance, and further development of the beamline. The user support involves contact with the users before their experiments in order to make sure that all necessary technical preparations and other prerequisites are in place for the experiments. The nature of the participation in user support will depend on the interests and the profile of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in research and development projects at the beamline with a very active Scandinavian user community. The successful candidate must fulfill following qualifications:

•University degree in natural sciences or engineering subjects of relevance for hard X-ray beamlines and solid background in the techniques and technologies relevant for the Balder beamline. A PhD degree is considered an advantage.
•Demonstrated experience in working at synchrotron radiation facilities as beamline staff.
•Demonstrated experience in the design, construction, including also the planning, running, and maintenance stages, of complex scientific equipment is a merit. •Demonstrated practical experience of developing, running, and maintaining equipment relevant for XAS or XES measurements including sample environments, gas handling systems, and detector systems is considered a merit.
•Demonstrated ability to work in teams and interact with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff in a dynamic environment.
•You have excellent command of English, both oral and written, very good communication skills, and good team working skills including also ability to work independently and plan your own time.

Probationary period may apply.
