MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.


Within the insertion devices team, the postdoc's role will be:

- To contribute to the development and set up an innovative magnetic bench in the small gap vacuum chamber of the undulator. The measurement system includes a Hall probe for the local magnetic field measurements and wire system for the magnetic field integral measurements.
- To develop models of permanent magnets, perform 3D magnetostatic simulation and to be involved in magnetic measurement of magnet blocks, sorting and magnetic optimisation of an undulator.
- To participate in the study and commissioning of the permanent magnetic insertion devices in the MAX IV rings and LINAC in close collaboration with Accelerator Physics group.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to write publications on the innovative magnetic measurement bench and commissioning results of newly installed insertion devices at the low emittance storage rings and LINAC at MAX IV laboratory. 


The position is proposed to candidates owning a Ph.D. degree in the field relevant to the accelerator physics, magnet technology and synchrotron radiation production. Abilities in programming and scripting (Matlab, Mathematica, IGORPRO, …) and in data acquisition is necessary. Knowledge of Magnetic design (RADIA, TOSCA 3D) codes and Synchrotron Radiation (SRW, Spectra) codes. Knowledge in high precision mechanics and motion will be an advantage for the magnetic measurement bench construction and assembly. Good communication skills are a must, including fluency in the English language.

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the doctoral degree or equivalent is completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

This is a 2 year temporary employment.
