Jefferson Lab FEL

The Jefferson Lab FEL is the world’s highest-power tunable infrared laser. It is unique in several ways, for its high power levels, and its superconducting energy-recovering linac, which generates the electrons’ energy and then recovers it, removing the need for a storage ring and preventing electron energy from beng lost. The FEL is a sub-picosecond, tunable light source covering the range from 250 nanometers in the ultraviolet to 14 microns in the mid-infrared, with pulse energies up to 300 microJoules, and at repetition rates up to 75 MHz.
