European XFEL

The European X-ray Free-Electron Laser is a 3.4-kilometer-long research facility in the Hamburg area, Germany. With user operation starting in September 2017, it will generate extremely intense X-ray flashes (up to 27 000 pulses per second) to be used by researchers from all over the world. The European XFEL is being operated by the European XFEL GmbH, a non-profit limited liability company under German law. As an independent research institute, it collaborates closely with DESY and many other institutions worldwide. At present, 11 countries participate in operation of the facility.
