The first MOOC to provide an extensive introduction to synchrotron and XFEL facilities and associated techniques. This first of two courses is pitched at a level to provide valuable insights into this broad spectrum of scientific disciplines, from the generation of x-rays, via the interaction of x-rays with matter, to a description of the machines that produce intense x-ray sources. The sister course will concentrate on modern experiments performed using these facilities. This year’s meeting will be held on site at Argonne National Laboratory, Building 401. The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-ll) and Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) Users’ Meeting offers scientists from diverse disciplines an opportunity to share their work, discuss new results, and explore the latest advances in experimental capabilities in synchrotron science, nanoscale science, materials science, and biological sciences. This year’s meeting will be held as a hybrid event and will offer a plenary session, a poster session, four days of workshops, exhibitor booths, and an in-person banquet! The CBMS Structural Biology workbench includes Solution Scattering (SAXS/WAXS), X-ray Foot Printing (XFP) and Macromolecular Crystallography (MX). The HTS Modelling Workshop aims to bring together researchers specializing in physics, mathematics, and electrical engineering applied to new and existing computational methods, the development of modeling tools, the advanced use of simulation software and the design of superconductivity applications in the industrial environment. The LCLS team is excited to introduce the newly launched LCLS-II to the summer school attendees. We are really excited to announce that we are running our X-Ray Imaging workshop again, for the 7th time, on the 19th June 2024. This event is a collaboration between The University of Manchester at Harwell, 3Dmagination and the Collaborative Computational Project in Tomographic Imaging (CCPi) with the aim of bringing together scientists from different fields to discuss developments and applications of a variety of X-Ray imaging and complementary techniques, and to build international collaborations. The topic of this year’s conference will focus on correlative imaging techniques (coupling X-rays, neutrons, diffraction), 4D in situ imaging (X-ray tomography), Big Data/Machine learning and quantification of data (advanced image processing, in situ strain mapping, modelling). We are pleased to invite you to ICXS 2024 where we will gather renowned speakers and guests to provide a platform for exchange about compact synchrotron X-ray sources, both classical accelerator-based as well as laser-wakefield accelerator-based inverse Compton sources. Furthermore, we intend to complement this R&D-aspect with X-ray applications in biomedical and material research. This way, we hope that potential users learn about the capabilities of these X-ray sources on the one hand, while developers understand the needs and requirements of users and thus may focus their research accordingly. Each summer HZB offers 20 undergraduate students an eight-week summer student programme.
