Electronic Structure of 2D Materials: Theory Meets Experiment

Date:
Tuesday, July 18, 2017 to Wednesday, July 19, 2017
Event Type:
Course
Location:
Diamond Light Source
United Kingdom
GB

In this workshop, a particular focus will be on probing electronic structure and many-body interactions using angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), and the new opportunities afforded by spatially resolved ARPES with sub-micrometre resolution (nanoARPES).

Complementary to this, there will be talks on electronic structure prediction in two-dimensional materials, correlated quantum matter effects, and modelling the photoemission process to allow direct links between experiment and theory.

The workshop will be hosted at the Diamond Light Source, in collaboration with the I05 beamline which is dedicated to the study of electronic structure by ARPES: tours of the I05 facilities will be available during the workshop and newcomers to ARPES and nanoARPES are welcome to attend.

Alongside the international list of invited speakers, attendees to the workshop are encouraged to submit abstracts for presentations if they wish; there will be slots for contributed talks and the poster session will be a key component of the program.

We gratefully acknowledge support for this workshop from EPSRC (EP/P01139X/1), CCP9 (Collaborative Computational Project for the Study of the Electronic Structure of Condensed Matter), and Diamond Light Source, on behalf of the organising committee.

Neil Wilson and Nicholas Hine (Department of Physics, University of Warwick)
