European X-ray Free-Electron Laser (European XFEL)

The European X-ray Free-Electron Laser is a 3.4-kilometer-long research facility currently under construction in the Hamburg area, Germany. From end of 2014 on, it will generate extremely intense X-ray flashes (up to 30000 pulses per second) to be used by researchers from all over the world. The European XFEL is being constructed by the European XFEL GmbH, a non-profit limited liability company under German law. As an independent research institute, it collaborates closely with DESY and many other institutions from currently 13 participating countries on the construction, commissioning and operation of the facility.
