Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL)
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC)

SSRL, the first user facility in the U.S., has provided synchrotron radiation to the scientific community for over 30 years. The SPEAR accelerator was upgraded in 2004 to a 3-GeV, 500-mA capable, 3rd-generation high-brightness storage ring. A parallel upgrade of existing beam lines and construction of new beam lines continues. SSRL operates a broad range of experimental stations from the VUV/soft x-ray to the hard x-ray energy regions of the spectrum with the majority based on high intensity insertion devices. Specialized facilities provide unique capabilities in numerous areas. With a strong focus on serving the general scientific community, SSRL provides access to beam lines, instrumentation, a pool of scientific equipment, instrumented sample preparation laboratories, computer systems, and a Guest House.
